2. ROMAN GOLD SOLIDUS OF EMPEROR HONORIUS

Flavius Honorius Augustus; 9 September 384 - 15 August 423, emperor of the Western Roman Empire from 393 to 423. He was the younger son of emperor Theodosius I. Honorius was the emperor who following the withdrawal of the army from Britannia instructed the Roman Britons to 'fend for themselves'.

A finely struck laureate head of Honorius (21 mm, 4.40 grams) Milan or Ravenna, 395-406. Obverse: Draped, diademed and cuirassed bust to the right. Reverse: Emperor standing right holding a labarum/vexillum. Victoria on globe, foot on bound captive. Graffiti. Clipped. Very Fine + roman coin.
