123. ROMAN TEMPLE TAZZA

A rare item indeed! Most I've seen are fakes or replicas, so very hard to find a real one. Burnished greyware. C. 1st - 3rd Century AD.

Tazzas are relatively common finds on temple sites and in contexts where religious and ritual activity is presumed to have taken place. They are also found in domestic contexts. One of the best examples of these vessels being unequivocally tied to religious practised was found in the so-called triangular temple at Verulamium from where a number of tazzas and what are assumed to be tazza lids were recovered.

Condition: As shown.
